Apparatus
The Lower Swatara Fire Department has embarked on Phase II of the overall project for the future of the fire department. Phase I of the project was the infrastructure of the fire department which has been completed and the department relocated from 800 Oberlin Road to 1350 Fulling Mill Road. Phase II of the project is apparatus replacement, this year Engine 59-1 and Rescue 59 will be replaced and hopefully both in-service by early 2012. Engine 59-1 will be purchased and funded by the Lower Swatara Fire Department. The Rescue 59 project was put in full swing by the Dauphin County Casino Gaming Grant, which will pay for $400,000 of the project. Both projects are in dire need that the current Engine 59-1 is 33 years old and Rescue 59 is 36 years old. Both vehicles have served the department well and looking into the future, the new apparatus are much needed to continue to serve Lower Swatara Township along with mutual aid areas.
