By Assistant Chief Kevin Zimmerman
April 12, 2017

At 15:15hrs on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 Company 59 was dispatched to the northbound lanes of Interstate 283 at mile marker 0.6 for a vehicle accident. Rescue 59 and Chief 59-2 went responding shortly after dispatch and were advised of a reported vehicle rolled over in the median. Rescue 59 arrived, confirming the report of a single vehicle in the median on its roof with 3 patients self extricated and 1 patient still inside. Rescue 59 established command while the crew began to stabilize the vehicle and perform patient care. Upon arrival, Chief 59-2 assumed the command. To gain better access for patient care, crews hyper extended both rear doors, removed the child safety seats from the rear bench seat, and moved both front seats to their forward most position. Based on conflicting reports of travel direction, Engine 59-1 responded to the southbound lanes from Lindle Road. Engine 59-1 arrived, staging in the southbound lane and sent manpower forward to assist with patient removal. Crews packaged the patient via backboard and removed them from the vehicle at which time care was transferred to Life Lion EMS. Company 59 crews operated for approximately 1 hour before returning to service.
