Live Burn At HACC

On Monday, September 26th, Company 59 concluded its weekly training sessions at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) with a live burn. This week, Company 59 was joined by members from the Middletown Fire Department (Co. 88). After all safety briefings and inspections were completed, newer, members with less experience were taken in during the per-burn and shown the stages of fire growth and progression. They were able to witness the development of the thermal and smoke layer as the fire grew and the temperature in the compartment increased. Once the fire had grown to a sufficient size, the newer members exited the building and the attack team entered and extinguished the fire. Several live fire evolutions were conducted on the first floor (entering through Bilco doors to simulate a basement fire) and second floor of the burn building. The officers of Company 59 would like to thank all participants for sacrificing the additional time and working hard to ensure this burn was a success.

A special thank you also goes to Deputy Chief Glenn McCoy, Firefighter Ben Gevers, as well as all of the burn technicians from Progress Fire Company (Co. 32). Without your assistance and expertise, this session would not have been possible.

Finally, the department would like to thank the members of the Lawnton Fire Company (Co. 44) for providing stand-by coverage for both Co. 59 and Co. 88, allowing our members to train.
