It's been a busy couple of days for the members of Lower Swatara Fire Department. Although not all incidents are posted, the last three were some of the bigger ones. The first one is a structure fire on the 200blk of Elm St. in the boro of Steelton where Rescue 59 was due.
Then a few hours later, FDLS Members were dispatched to their first due for a Structure fire on Richardson road. Engine 59 responded with 4(Capt. Taylor), Tanker 59 with 3(FF Zimmerman), and Chief 59. Crews arrived to find a single story residential structure with smoke coming from the roof around the chimney. Crews quickly knocked the fire and conducted overhaul.
Finally, FDLS members were dispatched to another first due structure fire in the Spring Street Gardens Apartment complex. Engine 59 responded with 4 (FF Zimmerman) and were quickly advised of fire reported in the walls of the apartment which prompted an upgrade to a first alarm assignment. Tanker 59 and Chief 59 responded as well. Crews arrived on scene to find an aggressive fire and immediately went to work to keep it from extending into other apartments.
A second alarm was struck when the fire self vented the roof which brought additional resources especially manpower to assist. Crews were on scene approx. 4 hours.
