This past Monday, FDLS members continued training in Heavy Vehicle Rescue and Stabilization Techniques. Similar to last training night, members were tasked in stabilizing a dump truck full of concrete that rolled onto a car causing an entrapment scenario.

These kinds of scenarios often require more than one rescue company in order to effectively perform their tasks therefore, Middletown Fire Department was asked to join in training. Utilizing both rescues, members were able to stabilize the vehicles and then remove the dump truck from being on top of the car enabling the ability to now begin extrication of victims.

The purpose of these techniques is to be able to effectively perform a rescue operation without the availability of a heavy wrecker company such as Cocker's Towing who utilize special equipment designed to handle extremely heavy vehicles.

A special thank you to Cocker's Towing for allowing the Lower Swatara Fire Department to utilize their property to train these past couple of weeks as well as to Middletown Fire Department for coming out to train with us.
