This past weekend was a busy one.

FDLS members were able to attend a class presented by Mid-Atlantic Technical Rescue for Advanced Vehicle Stabilization and Extrication of Heavy Vehicles hosted by Elizabethtown Fire Department.

Members were able to learn and practice techniques that involved raising, rolling, and stabilizing vehicles that were potentially up to 40 tons in weight off of passenger vehicles. Members were able to utilize tools such as air bags, cribbing, and struts in order to accomplish their goals as well as learning techniques in order to estimate the weight of the vehicle as well as limitations of the tools used and how to overcome these limitations.

Lower Swatara Fire Department, Elizabethtown Fire Department, Fire Department Mount Joy, Bainbridge Fire Company, Lancaster City Bureau of Fire, Shrewsbury Fire Department, Blue Rock Fire Rescue, Colonial Park Fire Company, Manheim Borough Fire Company, Hampden Township Fire Company, and Rohrerstown Fire Company were in attendance with an approximate total of 40 students.

The members of the Lower Swatara Fire Department would like to thank Mid-Atlantic Technical Rescue for teaching an excellent class and the Elizabethtown Fire Department for being such great hosts.
