Lower Swatara Fire Department
Final inspection on New Tanker
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Deputy Chief Daniel Phillips
January 26, 2018

This week the apparatus committee flew to Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, Wisconsin to complete the final inspection on the new Tanker 59. This trip marks the culmination of over 2 years of planning, designing, and constructing a functional piece of apparatus to combine and replace our 1998 Seagrave Engine (sold to Williamstown Fire Company in June 2017) and 1992 Mack/4-Guys Tanker. The new tanker carries 2500 gallons of water, has a 1500 GPM pump, 1 pre-connected 1.75" bumper line, 3 pre-connected cross lays (2 1.75" and 1 2.5"), 1 pre-connected Blitzfire line in the rear, deck gun, 200' of 1" hose on a booster reel, seating for 6 personnel, and will carry an assortment of equipment needed to function as both an Engine Company and Water Supply piece.

The apparatus committee hopes that the significant amount of time and effort spent designing the vehicle will meet the needs of the department and the citizens of Lower Swatara Township both now and well into the future. The committee would like to thank the members of the department, the citizens of Lower Swatara Township, the Lower Swatara Township Board of Commissioners, the Dauphin County Gaming Advisory Board, the Dauphin County Commissioners, and State Representative Tom Mehaffie for their help and support with making this project possible.
